Admissions criteria

Criteria for candidates with "new" Polish maturity exam (issued after 2005)

Admission shall include the Matura certificate competition – the results of the subjects indicated below, which are taken as part of the Matura examination in the written part, shall be considered:

• The result of the basic level exam shall be multiplied by the conversion factor of 0.5 or the extended level by the conversion factor of 1 and then by the subject weight.
• If a candidate has taken a subject at the Matura exam at both levels, the result from the level which is more favourable to the candidate after applying the conversion factor and weighting shall be considered. The same subject may be included twice in the admission process, provided that the candidate has passed it at two different levels, i.e., basic and extended.
• The score of the bilingual exam from the modern foreign language shall be converted to the score at the extended level by multiplying it by 4/3; The maximum result from the extended level shall not exceed 100% (if higher, the final value shall be 100%).
• Admission for studies shall be determined by the place on the ranking list created based on the sum of points obtained
• Recruitment is conducted for the major of English Philology within the admission limit adopted by the University Senate. At the stage of enrolling in the major, the candidate indicates at most two specialities he/she is interested in; the first speciality indicated is treated as preferred. The indication of a specialisation is not tantamount to accepting the candidate for that specialisation. The determined limit of admissions to a specialisation will be divided into individual, above-mentioned specialisations. The number of places for a given specialisation will be determined by the Faculty. The final allocation is made according to the ranking list of persons admitted to the English Philology major (i.e. after qualifying for admission, the candidate will be allocated, according to the declaration, to the chosen specialisation. In the event that the admission limit for the specialisation chosen by the candidate is filled by persons with a higher number of points on the ranking list, the candidate will be offered the specialisation of second choice. If the limit for the second-choice speciality is also filled by persons with higher points on the ranking list, the candidate will be offered the speciality in which there are vacancies).
• A given major shall be launched with the number of candidates required to form one class group. 

"Old" Polish maturity exam

In the case of the candidates who took the “old” Polish maturity exam, the results of particular subjects taken orally or in writing (specified in the relevant programme admission criteria for candidates who passed the “new” Polish maturity exam), placed on the certificate of secondary education and certificate issued by Regional Examinations Board, are taken into consideration.

The method of converting results of the Polish maturity exam is adjusted to the evaluation system for the candidates who took the “new” Polish maturity exam.

The maturity exam grades will be converted to percentage points as follows:

In the case when there are programme entrance exams, both the results of these exams and the results of maturity exams are taken into consideration.

International Baccalaureate

The admission rules applying to candidates with the new Matura certificate (“nowa matura”) also apply to candidates with the international Matura – the International Baccalaureate (IB) diploma, issued by the International Baccalaureate foundation headquartered in Geneva. The results from the IB diploma will be converted into the “nowa matura” scale in the following way

• Percentage in the written IB Matura exam at the basic level (SL) is converted to points as follows: 1% = 1 points.
• Percentage in the written IB Matura exam at the advanced level (HL) is converted to points as follows: 1% = 1.5 points.

In case the candidate does not submit the International Baccalaureate diploma, for the sake of qualification, the candidate is obliged to submit the certificate about the IB result issued by the appropriate institution and present the IB diploma immediately after its reception.

European Baccalaureate

The candidate who obtained the European Baccalaureate diploma, issued by European Schools in accordance to the Luxemburg Convention of 21 June 1994 about the European School status, are subject to the same admission rules as holders of “new” Polish maturity exam. The results on the diploma of European Baccalaureate are treated as results of the extended “new” Polish maturity exams and are calculated according to the following indicators:

 In case the candidate does not submit the European Baccalaureate diploma, for the sake of qualification, the candidate is obliged to submit the certificate about the EB result issued by the appropriate institution and present the EB diploma immediately after its reception.
