Admissions criteria

Criteria for candidates with "new" Polish maturity exam (issued after 2005)

Stage 1 — the Matura certificate competition

Admission shall include the Matura certificate competition – the results of the subjects indicated below, which are taken as part of the Matura examination in the written part, shall be taken into account:  

• The result of the certificate competition is the sum of three items x weight of 10 subject to the condition that — the result of the basic level exam shall be multiplied by the conversion factor of 0.5, at the extended level by the conversion factor of 1.
• If a candidate has taken a subject at the Matura exam at both levels, the result from the level which is more favourable to the candidate after applying the conversion factor shall be considered. The same subject may be included twice in the admission process, provided the candidate has passed it at two levels, i.e., basic and extended.
• The score of the bilingual exam from the modern foreign language shall be converted to the score at the extended level by multiplying it by 4/3; The maximum result from the extended level shall not exceed 100% (if higher, the final value shall be 100%).

Stage 2 – ESSAY on "What is the future of education?"

A candidate for Individual Teacher Training Studies (ISN) shall prepare an essay (as regards the topic: What is the future of education?) and provide an exemplary bibliography that reflects their scientific interest (at least three items). The candidate shall provide (by electronic means) the essay and the bibliography within the time limit set in the admission procedure schedule (on the ISM College website) via the form to which they receive the link as the admission process starts. The admission committee, consisting of academic teachers and experts representing different scientific disciplines, shall read the submitted essay and evaluate it.

The essay shall be scored on a scale of 0 to 15 points. A positive result shall be a minimum score of 5 points.

Receiving at least 5 points shall be a condition for entry into stage 3 of the admission procedure, i.e., a competence interview. 

Stage 3 – Competency-based interview

The type of interview for which the candidate shall prepare a presentation relating to the subject of the essay – presents their own interests and aptitude for the profession of teacher – special educator through discussion with the committee.

The interview shall be scored on a scale of 0 to 25 points. A positive result from the competence interview shall be a minimum score of 10 points. 

The receipt by the candidate of fewer than 10 points or the absence in the test shall disqualify the candidate from the entire admission procedure.

Upon completion of the admission process, the admission committee shall establish a ranking list based on the number of points.

Admission for the study programme shall be determined by place on the ranking list. The order of admission of candidates with the “old” and “new” Matura shall be determined by the ranking list based on the admission criterion mentioned above

"Old" Polish maturity exam

In the case of the candidates who took the “old” Polish maturity exam, the results of particular subjects taken orally or in writing (specified in the relevant programme admission criteria for candidates who passed the “new” Polish maturity exam), placed on the certificate of secondary education and certificate issued by Regional Examinations Board, are taken into consideration.

The method of converting results of the Polish maturity exam is adjusted to the evaluation system for the candidates who took the “new” Polish maturity exam.

The maturity exam grades will be converted to percentage points as follows:

In the case when there are programme entrance exams, both the results of these exams and the results of maturity exams are taken into consideration.

International Baccalaureate

The admission rules applying to candidates with the new Matura certificate (“nowa matura”) also apply to candidates with the international Matura – the International Baccalaureate (IB) diploma, issued by the International Baccalaureate foundation headquartered in Geneva. The results from the IB diploma will be converted into the “nowa matura” scale in the following way

• Percentage in the written IB Matura exam at the basic level (SL) is converted to points as follows: 1% = 1 points.
• Percentage in the written IB Matura exam at the advanced level (HL) is converted to points as follows: 1% = 1.5 points.

In case the candidate does not submit the International Baccalaureate diploma, for the sake of qualification, the candidate is obliged to submit the certificate about the IB result issued by the appropriate institution and present the IB diploma immediately after its reception.

European Baccalaureate

The candidate who obtained the European Baccalaureate diploma, issued by European Schools in accordance to the Luxemburg Convention of 21 June 1994 about the European School status, are subject to the same admission rules as holders of “new” Polish maturity exam. The results on the diploma of European Baccalaureate are treated as results of the extended “new” Polish maturity exams and are calculated according to the following indicators:

 In case the candidate does not submit the European Baccalaureate diploma, for the sake of qualification, the candidate is obliged to submit the certificate about the EB result issued by the appropriate institution and present the EB diploma immediately after its reception.

Secondary education certificate, or equivalent, obtained outside of Poland

The candidate who has obtained the secondary school graduation certificate (or another document) issued outside Poland may apply for studies. The document has to entitle the holder to undertaking Bachelor studies in the country in which the document was issued.

For candidates which are Polish citizens or apply for studies on the same rules as Polish citizens, the admission procedures defined in the programme’s description apply.

Foreign candidates applying for studies on other basis (tuition-paying, tuition-free, scholarships) are accepted for studies under regulations other than noted in the admission criteria. 

If programme’s admission criteria require mark in Polish language : The candidates applying as Polish citizens or on the same rules as Polish, which finished secondary education outside Poland, will have the mark of that country’s language taken into account instead of Polish language mark.

In the case of candidates who have a secondary school-leaving certificate or other document authorising them to take up 1st cycle studies or long-cycle studies issued abroad, the grades in the document authorising them to take up studies in the country of document issue are taken into consideration. Additionally, WKR may take into consideration the grades in external exams in the countries where such exams are conducted, e.g.: result of CT exam in the case of Belarus, result of EGE exam in the case of Russia, and result of ZNO exam in the case of Ukraine. The results of these exams shall be regarded as equivalent to Polish advanced Matura exam.

Note: If programme’s admission criteria under “new” Polish maturity exam include additional entrance exams the results of BOTH entrance exam and secondary school graduation certificate are considered.
