Educational Programme

Educational Programme

The fundamental educational aim is to equip the students with a set of skills necessary to identify new, innovative and applicable research problems, and to conduct research according to the highest, international level, with the use of state-of-the-art analytical methods and techniques. Studies at the Doctoral School will enable the students to gain up-to-date, specialist knowledge in the field of exact and natural sciences as well as engineering and technology, and to develop interdisciplinary understanding of the ways in which the environment operates in the context of global climate changes. The School will enable wider dissemination of knowledge and study results within the academia and the society at large.

Education in the IEDS is provided in the disciplines of Mathematics, Earth and related environmental sciences, and Biological sciences  (in the field of Natural Sciences), and Materials Engineering (in the field of Engineering and technology).

Substantive description


Requirements to enter qualification procedure

To enter the qualification procedure, each candidate must:

  1. Create a personal account in irk2.us.edu.pl and fill a form containing relevant declarations and consents, information about the scientific discipline or disciplines, ORCID number
  2. Submitting through irk2.us.edu.pl the following documents and information: 
    • an authorized copy of master’s degree along with the supplement
    • curriculum vitae;
  3. Pay the admission fee of 400,00 PLN.
  4. submit a letter of motivation and a CV including a list of academic achievements as well as other documents specified in the recruitment criteria should be submitted to the IEDS, via polarknow@us.edu.pl within the recruitment schedule

Requirements to admission

Recruitment will be conducted in accordance with the requirements of the Regulations for the allocation of funds for the implementation of tasks financed by the National Science Centre in the field of research projects introduced by the Resolution of the Council of the National Science Centre No. 95/2020 of 14 September 2020, and in accordance with the rules in force in this Entity. The recruitment (scholarship) committee, on the basis of the submitted list of scientific achievements and the interview conducted, evaluates:

1. competence to carry out specific tasks in the research project (70% of the final mark):

– 3 points – very good;

– 2 points – good;

– 1 point – poor;

– 0 points – no competencies.

2. The candidate’s academic record, including publications in reputable publications/ scientific journals (30% of the final mark):

– 4 points – outstanding;

– 3 points – very good;

– 2 points – good;

– 1 point – poor;

– 0 points – no scientific output.

Schedule

  • September 10, 2024 — Opening of registration in the online candidate registration system (hereafter IRK).
  • September 29, 2024 — Closing the registration of candidates in IRK system (i.e., deadline for creating an account in the IRK enrollment system, paying the enrollment fee (the date of transfer is decisive) and entering the required information and documents.
  • September 30, 2024 – Notifying to candidates via e-mail about the date and place of interviews to the e-mail addresses provided in the IRK system.
  • October 2, 2024 — Interviews with candidates.
  • October 3, 2024 — Notifying candidates about results of the recruitment.
  • October 4-7, 2024 — Submitting the required documents by candidates qualified for admission and enrolment on the list of PhD students.
  • October 8, 2024 – Notifying candidates on the reserve list about their eligibility for admission.
  • October 9-10, 2024 – Submitting the required documents from candidates qualified for admission by the reserve list and enrolment on the list of PhD students.
  • October 11, 2024 — Deadline for publication of the results of the admission procedure on the IEDS website.

Scholarship

The scholarship for a period of 48 months will be financed within the NCN PRELUDIUM BIS project no. 2023/50/O/ST10/00480 entitled: „Modelling of subsurface melting in blue glacial ice areas,” managed by Michał Pętlicki, PhD. The doctoral scholarship within the project will be 5000 PLN gross per month for 24 months and 6000 PLN gross per month for the next 24 months.
