The subject aims to provide knowledge in the field of:
- structures of use of energy sources (change trends, prospects);
- organization of the electricity market;
- technologies for processing energy raw materials and energy production technologies, with particular emphasis on nuclear energy;
- new technologies in the energy sector and activities increasing energy efficiency;
- the impact of the combustion of fossil fuels on the environment and the technical and economic tools limiting this impact;
- renewable energy resources and legal and economic aspects of their use;
- possibilities of using waste energy sources.
Additionally, the student completes a project on the impact of energy production on our planet and on human life (including the progress of civilization necessary for the development of science).
Topics:
1. Ways of producing energy,
2. Comparison of different sources of electricity,
3. Waste resulting from the production of electricity,
4. Measurements and calculations of ionizing radiation doses.
Competencies:
Knows the technologies of processing energy resources and producing energy from them, technologies of biofuels producing as well as the principles of the functioning of the electricity and heat market, understands the benefits and limitations of using renewable energy sources, understands the need to implement new energy generation technologies, appreciates the role of sustainable development in the energy economy, is aware of the environmental costs of using fossil fuels.
