Educational Programme

Educational Programme

The fundamental educational aim is to equip the students with a set of skills necessary to identify new, innovative and applicable research problems, and to conduct research according to the highest, international level, with the use of state-of-the-art analytical methods and techniques. Studies at the Doctoral School will enable the students to gain up-to-date, specialist knowledge in the field of exact and natural sciences as well as engineering and technology, and to develop interdisciplinary understanding of the ways in which the environment operates in the context of global climate changes. The School will enable wider dissemination of knowledge and study results within the academia and the society at large.

Education in the IEDS is provided in the disciplines of Mathematics, Earth and related environmental sciences, and Biological sciences  (in the field of Natural Sciences), and Materials Engineering (in the field of Engineering and technology).

Substantive description


Requirements to enter qualification procedure

To enter the qualification procedure, each candidate must:

  1. Create a personal account in irk2.us.edu.pl and fill a form containing relevant declarations and consents, information about the scientific discipline or disciplines, ORCID number
  2. Submitting through irk2.us.edu.pl the following documents and information: 
    • an authorized copy of master’s degree along with the supplement
    • curriculum vitae;
  3. Pay the admission fee of 400,00 PLN.

Requirements to admission

Enrollment will be conducted in accordance with the requirements of the Rules and Regulations for the Award of NCN Scientific Fellowships in Research Projects Funded by the National Science Centre, introduced by the Resolution of the Council of the National Science Centre No. 124/2022 of 1 December 2022, and in accordance with the rules in force thereof. The Admission Committee, on the basis of the submitted list of scientific achievements and the interview conducted, evaluates:

 

1. The candidate’s academic record, including publications in reputable publications/ scientific journals (50% of the final mark):

– 4 points – outstanding;

– 3 points – very good;

– 2 points – good;

– 1 point – poor;

– 0 points – no scientific output.

2. Achievements resulting from research, scholarships, awards and scientific experience gained at home or abroad, workshops and scientific training, participation in research projects (20% of the final mark):

– 4 points – outstanding (including scholarships, internships in leading foreign centres, prestigious international awards or prizes, workshops or training in leading scientific centres, participation in international or foreign projects);

– 3 points – Significant (scholarships, internships in good national and foreign centres, national awards or prizes, foreign or national workshops or training, participation in national or foreign projects);

– 2 points – Moderate (local honours or awards, workshops or training, participation in university projects);

– 1 points – Poor achievements;

– 0 points – no achievements.

3. competence to carry out specific tasks in the research project (30% of the final mark):

– 3 points – very good;

– 2 points – good;

– 1 point – poor;

 

– 0 points – no competencies.

  • October 10, 2024 — Opening of registration in the online candidate registration system (hereafter IRK).
  • November 3, 2024 — Closing the registration of candidates in IRK system (i.e., deadline for creating an account in the IRK enrollment system, paying the enrollment fee (the date of transfer is decisive) and entering the required information and documents.
  • November 4, 2024 – Notifying to candidates via e-mail about the date and place of interviews to the e-mail addresses provided in the IRK system.
  • November 6, 2024 — Interviews with candidates.
  • November 7, 2024 — Notifying candidates about results of the recruitment.
  • November 8-13, 2024 — Submitting the required documents by candidates qualified for admission and enrolment on the list of PhD students.
  • November 14, 2024 – Notifying candidates on the reserve list about their eligibility for admission.
  • November 15-19, 2024 – Submitting the required documents from candidates qualified for admission by the reserve list and enrolment on the list of PhD students.
  • November 20, 2024 — Deadline for publication of the results of the admission procedure on the IEDS website.

Scholarship

TThe amount of the stipend (up to the mid-term evaluation) is PLN 5,000 gross for the first 24 months of training at the doctoral school will be financed from the NCN project competition OPUS-24 entitled. ‘Sea ice, waves and turbulence – from laboratory scale to better large-scale models – ICEWAVE’ No. 2022/47/B/ST10/01129 and consists of a PhD scholarship as defined in Article 209 of the Law on Higher Education and Science of 20 July 2018 and a research stipend.

The amount of the stipend for the first 9 (extendable to 22) months after the mid-term evaluation will be 6500 PLN gross and will be financed from the funds for the NCN project  OPUS-24 entitled:. „Sea ice, waveforms and turbulence – from laboratory scale to better large-scale models – ICEWAVE” No. 2022/47/B/ST10/01129 and consists of a PhD stipend as defined in Article 209 of the Law on Higher Education and Science of 20 July 2018 and a research stipend.

In the remaining 2 to 15 months of training at the doctoral school, a doctoral student without a doctoral degree shall receive a doctoral scholarship in accordance with Article 209 of the Act of 20 July 2018. Law on Higher Education and Science.
